Overview

About Annapurna Circuit.
The Annapurna Circuit is a long-distance trekking route that circles the Annapurna massif. The elevation gain along the 190km Annapurna circuit is huge. It starts in a little town called Besisahar at 760m (about two and a half Eiffel Towers high) Annapurna Circuit has been voted the best long-distance trek in the world, as it combined, in its old full form, a wide variety of climate zones from the tropics at 600 m asl to the Arctic at 5416 m asl at the Thorong La pass and cultural variety from Hindu villages at the low foothills to the Tibetan culture of Manang Valley and lower Mustang. Continuing construction of a road has shortened the trail and changed the villages. The Beisahar-Manag road has been built which passes through the trekking trail much of the time. With the construction of roads, mountain biking is becoming popular, with Mustang, in particular.

Annapurna Circuit Trek is a famous trek in Nepal. This trek is located in the Annapurna region of Nepal, which is protected by the Annapurna Nature Reserve Project (ACAP).The Annapurna Circuit starts at an altitude of 800 meters and climbs up to 5416 meters (Throng La Pass) through rice fields, subtropical forests, rural villages and ice ages. Panoramic view of the Himalayas including Dhaulagiri (8167 m), Annapurna I (8091 m), Manaslu (8163 m), Annapurna II (7937 m), Annapurna III (7555 m), Annapurna IV (7525 m), Annapurna South ( 7219 m ), Nilgiri (7041 m), Machhapuchhare (6998 m), Hiunchuli (6441 m), Lamjung Himal (6986 m), Tukuchen Peak (6920 m) and Tilicho (7134 m) are the main attractions of Annapurna Circuit Trek.

On the first day of the Annapurna Circuit Trek, we take a public bus from Kathmandu to Chamjee and share a jeep. On the fourth day, we reach the headquarters of Manang District, Chame (2630 m) where we can also visit a small natural hot spring. On the sixth day of the Annapurna circuit, we walk to Manang via Gheru and Nawal, where you can see panoramic views of the Annapurna Himalayan Mountain range, including the valley and the glacier. At Manang, we spend one extra day for acclimatization and continue trekking to Throng High Camp, overnight at Letdar (4250 m. We leave Throng High Camp early in the morning to cross Throng La Pass on Day 10 of Annapurna Tour). Throng La Pass (5416 m) connects Manang village and Muktinath temple. After lunch in the town of Muktinath we will visit the Muktinath temple.

After staying overnight at Muktinath Village, we continue our journey to Jomsom (headquarters of Mustang District) through the windy valley of the Kali Gandak River.Early morning the next day, we fly to Pokhara, which offers a stunning panoramic view of the Annapurna Himalayas. After reaching Pokhara, you can visit Fewa lake and explore the city. Pokhara is the second largest city in Nepal and a place of natural beauty.

Useful Info
Best Season to do Annapurna Circuit Trek:

Spring – March through May
With clear skies and sunny days, this is the most sought-after season for Annapurna Circuit Trekking in Nepal. At higher altitudes, mornings and nights can be cool, although temperatures are generally low. The sky is mostly clear and it is not raining at the moment. There is a lot of greenery this year. The national flower of Nepal, the rhododendron, grows at lower altitudes and is exceptionally magnificent. Pine trees at lower altitudes are refreshing and aromatic, while other native plants provide a variety of colors.

Autumn – October through November
In the Annapurna region, this is another really popular season for trekking the Annapurna circuit. Thanks to the pleasant weather and wonderful scenery, more hikers are coming to the trails and the demand for accommodation is high. The trekking staff is overwhelmed as the festival season and peak trekking season overlap. Keep this in mind when planning your trip. On the other hand, enjoy the festive atmosphere and itinerary of Pokhara.

Meals during the Annapurna Circuit Trek:
The quality of the food is excellent on the Annapurna circuit and we recommend trying some of the local delicacies such as dal, Bhat, boiled potatoes with chili sauce, Sherpa stew and curry rice. Although each lodge also offers a wide variety of Western dishes, these are Sherpa staples. The breakfast selection includes fried and scrambled eggs, toast, pancakes, Tibetan bread, muesli, porridge, tea, coffee and chocolate. The lunch and dinner menu includes soups (tomato, garlic, vegetables, mushrooms, etc.), vegetable fried rice, dal, bhati, curry with rice, noodles (fried, vegetables, egg, cheese), macaroni, spring rolls ( vegetables). , egg, cheese, mixed), mo:mo (myky), pizza (all varieties), chips (vegetable or cheese), fries, buffalo steak (water buffalo, sometimes yak) and lasagna. We recommend avoiding dairy products, alcoholic beverages, foods containing caffeine and hot chocolate. At high altitude, it is recommended to drink fluids such as green tea, lemon tea, hot lemon, ginger tea, garlic soup (mandatory) and fresh vegetables.

Accommodation during Annapurna Circuit Trek:
You will stay in standard hotels in Kathmandu and Pokhara. With the Annapurna Circuit Trek, you can stay at several different lodges. There are lodges, guest hotels and teahouses that cater to tourists. As a first step, the cabins are nice, but things change as you level up. The tea room has a large dining room with a wood stove. Campers mostly eat and chat while warming up by the fire in the dining area. Every hostel has blankets. Accommodations are quite small. They are usually furnished with two single beds, blankets and sometimes a table and chair. The lower cabins have clean western-style flush toilets, but as you hike higher, traditional drip toilets, which are holes in the ground, become more common. The best way is to always have toilet paper with you.

Annapurna Circuit Trek Difficulties:
The difficulty level of the Annapurna Circuit Trek is tough. The extreme altitude of the route makes the Annapurna Circuit difficult. Along the hiking trail is Thorung La, the highest trail in the region, which rises to a height of 5,416 meters. Due to severe frost and heavy snowfall, this part of the journey is so difficult that it is closed most of the year. In addition, you will be at an altitude of more than 3000 meters the whole way. You will go through the most difficult terrains, which are often uneven, rocky and steep. This adds to the difficulty of the Annapurna circuit. Unlike many other treks, Annapurna Circuit Trek cannot be reduced in difficulty. You can skip some paths if you want, but you'll miss out on most of the adventure. The only thing a trekker can do better when facing the challenges of the Annapurna trek is to prepare physically and mentally for the trek.Altitude Sickness and Measures for Annapurna Circuit:As hikers climb higher into the mountains, the oxygen density and atmospheric pressure become less dense than at sea level. After starting from the north, the Annapurna tour gradually climbs up to 5416 meters above sea level. Hikers may experience typical symptoms of altitude sickness such as nausea, diarrhea, headache, loss of appetite, exhaustion and insomnia while hiking above 3,000 meters. These symptoms should be treated immediately. Hikers should descend immediately to avoid problems. Many people choose not to inform others because they fear they will be turned away and unable to complete the trip. Therefore, it inevitably puts their lives at risk. Do not hide and inform your guide as soon as possible. To avoid symptoms of altitude sickness, you must acclimatize properly. By adapting, your body can more easily adapt to its conditions. Drinking water, maintaining your speed, and following your driver's directions can help prevent AMS. Additionally, you should avoid drinking and smoking during this tour.

Travel Insurance for Annapurna Circuit Trek:

That is why we recommend that anyone booking a Trek Annapurna Circuit with Green Valley Nepal Treks buy travel insurance. Overnight in Kathmandu.

After breakfast, we will start an interesting tour of Kathmandu. Try to give a full taste of our vibrant cultural scene and the enchanting way of its people with an English-speaking guide (any language speaking guide can be provided if desired). During our trip we visit Swayambhu Nath, Pashupatinath and Kathmandu Durbar Square.

Kathmandu Durbar Square: Built between the 12th and 18th centuries, this complex of palaces, courtyards and temples was once the seat of the ancient Malla kings of Kathmandu. A fascinating piece is a stone inscription from the 17th century placed on the wall of the palace with inscriptions in 15 languages. Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the social, religious and civic center of the city.

Swayambhu Nath: This 2,000-year-old hilltop stupa is the world's grandest Buddhist shrine and is surrounded by several small pagodas. The lid of the main temple is a gilded copper brash and the all-seeing eyes of Lord Buddha are painted on its four sides.

Pashupatinath: The temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is the holiest and most famous temple in Nepal. Located 5 kilometers northeast of Kathmandu on the banks of the sacred Bagmati River, it is an impressive pagoda-style structure with a gilded roof and richly carved silver doors. There are baths and cremation places, which are of interest to tourists especially in the morning and during festival days.

Overnight in Kathmandu.

After breakfast at the hotel, leaving early in the morning, a public bus will take you from Kathmandu to Bhulbhule via Besisahar. You will then be placed in a shared jeep and driven to Dharapan, the last stop of the day. You will be amazed by the beautiful waterfalls, snowy mountains and several suspension bridges on the Annapurna circuit. Following the Marsayangdi River, you will travel through the charming villages of Ngadi, Bahundanda, Syange, Jagat, Chamje and Tali before reaching Dharapan. Trekkers must register their identity and trekking permit at the Dharapan police check post.

Overnight in Dharapani.

Today your Annapurna Circuit Trek route passes through the Alpine region where the weather is changing and getting colder. The Tibetan settlements of Bagarchhap and Danakyu are reached after traveling through forests. Along with pine trees, farms and views of Lamjung and Annapurna II peaks, you can see the apple growing region. After passing through the delightful settlements of Timang, Thanchowk and Koto, where the Naar-Phu trail joins the Annapurna circuit, you finally reach Chame. At the entrance to the settlement is a large maniwall with prayer wheels. Chame, the headquarters of the Manang district, has a number of amenities, including high-end hotels, Internet cafes, shops selling camping equipment, banks, and communication and health services.

Overnight in Chame.

The path of Chame goes through a wonderful forest of pine and rhododendron in a small rocky valley. The route ascends and after crossing the Marshyangdi River on a suspension bridge offers breathtaking views of rock faces including Pangdi Danda and Swargadwari Danda. As you continue your Annapurna circuit trekking route, you will pass through Talekhu and Bhratang village and reach Dhikur Pokhar. Many mountains like Annapurna II, Pisang Peak, Chulu Peak, Tilicho Peak and others are visible from Dhikur Pokhar. Then, you cross the suspension bridge over the river and start walking towards Upper Pisang. Upper Pisang offers a magnificent view of Kuntu Danda, Longyo Danda and the Pisang peak of the Annapurna range. Due to the thin air in Upper Pisang, some hikers may experience breathing problems.

Overnight in Upper Pisang.

You will take the most difficult route, which involves several steep climbs and turns, starting from Pisang. You will hike to higher routes through Upper Pisang via Ghyaru and Ngawali with great views of Lamjung Himal (6983m), Annapurna II (7937m), Annapurna IV (7525m), Gandarbha Chul (6250m). ), Annapurna III (7555 m), Gangapurna (7544 m), Glacier Dome (7193 m), Khangsar Kan (6091 m). You will notice that the air becomes cooler, drier and harsher as the track grows. As you pass through Tibetan communities, you will have the opportunity to learn about Buddhist culture. It passes the charming town of Munchi and the obscure village of Braga before reaching Manang. The biggest monastery in Manang is Barge Monastery, which you are about to explore. When you finally reach Manang Bazaar after passing several monasteries, you will find that the road is lined with Buddhist shrines. One of the most important settlements in the Annapurna circuit is Manang. All services are available here.

Overnight in Manang.

Before climbing the high mountain and Thorung La Pass, an important rest day is needed for acclimatization. As per your Annapurna Circuit Trek route, today is your acclimatization day. Make the most of the time with a quick acclimatization walk to and around Gangapurna Lake. The journey to this tourist destination is a bit rocky and full of small stones and debris, but the scenery is amazing. Gangapurna Lake itself is serene and draws its water from melting glaciers as it is surrounded by sparkling hills and steep mountains. Mount Gangapurna, Khangsar Kang, Glacial Dome and Annapurna are all visible from the coast. Some hikers also like to side hike to Ice Lake and Base Camp, which offer great scenery. Their route offers great views of Chulu Peak, Tilicho and Annapurna III.

Overnight in Manang.

Your Annapurna circuit ascends from Manang village to Tengi settlement, crosses a spring and then continues its ascent through the Marshyangdi valley before turning northwest and ascending to the Jarsang Khola valley. The trail heads north through this valley, slowly ascending as it passes through some meadows and juniper thickets. Near the further route is the small settlement of Ghusang, consisting of a collection of mud-roofed buildings. The route passes through the pastures of yaks and horses known as Yak Kharka. The road crosses the historic Old Wall of Man in a peaceful meadow after crossing a small river on a wooden bridge and finally reaches the beautiful village of Ledar.

Overnight in Ledar.

Today you will trek to Thorung High Camp, also known as Thorung Phedi. The journey to Thorung Phed or Thorung High Camp takes 4-5 hours depending on physical condition and weather. At those higher altitudes, higher altitude affects gravity and often strong winds. Snow on the Annapurna circuit can make the journey significantly longer. Follow your guide carefully and carefully. Herds of yak and blue sheep can be seen grazing on the other side of the river opposite the course. There are not many waypoints in Thorung Phed. Unlike the green lowlands you crossed on the way up in the first part of the trek, the barren, rocky environment is spectacular and quite different. Walking to High Camp makes the next day easier if you are not exhausted and want to go further.

Overnight in Throng Phedi.

Thorung La Pass at 5,416 meters is reached after a steep ascent from Thorung Phed or Thorung High Camp. Annapurna Range, Thorong Peak, Dhaulagiri Range, Nilgiris and other distant mountains can be seen from Thorung La Pass. Your Annapurna circuit descends to Muktinath after taking some photos and viewing the scenery. All the way down is the route from Thorung La Pass to Muktinath. Besides the Buddhist temple, Muktinath is the second largest Hindu temple. Muktinath Temple attracts many Hindu pilgrims. Muktinath has two small ponds and 108 water taps. Hindus believe that if you shower with 108 taps, you will be cleansed of sins committed in a previous life. A sacred natural gas flame glows behind the grate just above the fountain of the Dhola Mebar Gompa or Jwalamai (Goddess of Fire) temple, just a short distance away through a cluster of Chortens. After visiting the Muktinath Temple, return to the property for breakfast before continuing to Jomsom, the administrative center of Mustang District, via Jharkot Village, Kagbeni and Ekle Bhatti. One of the windiest valleys in Nepal is Jomsom.

Overnight in Jomsom.

A large city called Jomsom is located on both sides of the Kali Gandak River. The town is an important transfer point for trips to Muktinath and Upper Mustang. Nepal Army has one company here. Jomsom Airport, which hosts Nepal Army aircraft, has regular flights to Pokhara. You will depart for Jomsom Airport early this morning to catch your flight to Pokhara. This is your last day of trekking on the mountain on your Annapurna circuit. Flight time to Pokhara is 30-40 minutes. During the flight, you can follow the route of Tatopani and Ghorepani and panoramic views of the Annapurna Himalayas.Use your free day in Pokhara to relax and unwind after a long day of walking. Pokhara offers an opportunity to explore many attractions like Phewa Lake, Tal Barah, Devi Falls, Gupteshwor Cave, World Peace Pagoda, International Mountain Museum, Bindabasin Temple, Mahendra Cave and many more. You should row a boat on the lake, especially if the weather is good.

The distance between Pokhara and Kathmandu is approximately 200 kilometers which follow the fascinating Marsyangdi River and then the Trishul River. Highly recommend

Kiran has organised three trekking trips in Nepal for me with family and friends in the last 12 years. Two to Annapurna circuit and one to Langtang region. All of the trips were good: enjoyable and safe. Kiran organised and managed everything well. When things didn’t go the plan (buses delayed, somebody got mountain sickness) Kiran and his team worked to solve problem. Highly recommend. Will organise more trips with Kiran.
